Exterior, deck & outdoor workDeck building
Deck building in Burnaby and across Metro Vancouver
New and rebuilt decks — at ground level or raised, with stairs, railings, pergolas and privacy screens — designed before anything is built.
In Vancouver a deck’s life is decided underneath it: the framing, and how water gets away. We build the structure for the rain first, then the surface you see.
We design the deck before the old one comes off — board direction, levels, stairs, and where the screens and a pergola sit — so the crew builds to a plan rather than working it out on site.
What it includes
- New decks and full deck rebuilds
- Framing and substructure
- Decking boards, laid to the pattern you choose
- Stairs and railings
- Pergolas and privacy screens
- Removal of the old deck
Good to have ready before we talk
- Photos of the existing deck or the space, and how you reach it from the street
- Rough size, and how high it sits
- What you want to use it for — eating, shade, privacy
- Trees, planting or a neighbour’s fence to work around
Designed before demolition
Board direction, borders and inlays, where the screens stand and where the stairs land are decided before the old deck comes off. On the Maple Ridge deck on this page, the hardwood surface was laid to a bordered pattern with a mitred inlay.
Decks that are also roofs
Where a raised deck shelters a patio below, rebuilding it means rebuilding a roof. On the Maple Ridge house, the structure went in first, then the substrate, then the finish surface, so the patio underneath was open for as short a time as possible.
Permits for raised decks
Raised decks usually need a building permit from your municipality. We check what applies before the work is priced.
What it typically costs
Material, height and what goes on the deck decide the price. In Vancouver’s rain, how a deck is built underneath matters as much as the boards on top.
| Scope | Usually includes | Typical range |
|---|---|---|
| Ground-level deck | Around 200 sq ft in pressure-treated wood, cedar or composite, with simple steps | $14,000–$32,000 |
| Raised or multi-level deck | Higher structures with stairs and railings, or a pergola or roof over part of it | $30,000–$50,000+ |
Raised decks usually need a building permit from your municipality.
A typical range to help you plan — not our price. Your project could come in lower or higher, depending on the work and the materials.
